What is Incense Resin?

Incense resin is a natural aromatic substance derived from the sap of trees, particularly those in the Burseraceae family, such as Boswellia (frankincense) and Commiphora (myrrh). The sap is harvested, dried, and often mixed with other aromatic materials like essential oils, dried flower petals, and wood chips.

Resin incense is known for its potent and long-lasting fragrance, making it popular for use in religious ceremonies, meditation, and aromatherapy. To use resin incense, you typically burn it on a charcoal disc in a heat-safe vessel, allowing the resin to melt and release its aromatic smoke.

How to Use Incense Resin?

Using incense resin can create a wonderfully aromatic experience. Are you new to resin? Here’s a simple guide to get you started:

1. Gather Your Supplies

  •  Incense resin of your choice.
  • Charcoal discs.
  • A heat-resistant incense burner or censer.
  • Tongs (for handling hot charcoal).
  • A lighter or matches.
  • Sand or ash (optional, to help stabilize the charcoal).

2. Prepare the Burner

Place a small amount of sand or ash in the bottom of your burner to help absorb heat and stabilize the charcoal.

3. Light the Charcoal

Hold the charcoal disc with tongs and light it with a lighter or match. It will start to spark and crackle. Allow it to heat up until it’s glowing red and covered with a layer of ash (this usually takes a few minutes).

4. Place the Charcoal in the Burner

Once the charcoal is ready, place it in the centre of your burner on top of the sand or ash.

5. Add the Resin

Using a small spoon or your fingers, place a small amount of incense resin on top of the hot charcoal. The resin will begin to melt and release its fragrant smoke.

Take time to centre yourself and enjoy the aromatic experience. You can add more resin as needed, but be careful not to overload the charcoal.

Important Safety Tips:
  • Always use your incense burner on a heat-resistant surface.
  • Never leave burning charcoal unattended.
  • Ensure proper ventilation in the room.
