Scallop Shells
All of our scallop shells are sustainably caught in British waters. These shells are a bi-product of the food industry. We stock a variety of different sizes and colours - please contact us if you're looking for something specific.
What is a Scallop Shell?
The scallop is a type of mollusc that is found in the sea - it is abundant in British Waters. As the scallop grows it builds its own shell from calcium carbonate. The shell grows slowly over time, developing the distinct ridges that the scallop shell is so notable for. The environment that the scallop is grown in can effect the colours of the shell - meaning each shell is a unique reflection of the precise location it was grown in.
The shells we stock are a bi-product of the food industry, and are all from British Waters.
Scallop shells are versatile and can be used for a variety of purposes. Our customers use them for everything from crafting to homeware, as well as using them for crystals and smudging.
What Can I Use Scallop Shells For?
Scallop shells serve practical purposes around the house. They can be used as elegant soap dishes, jewellery holders, or even mini planters for succulents and air plants. Their natural beauty adds a touch of coastal charm to any space, whether used independently or in combination with other decorative elements.
When used in spiritual or cleansing rituals, scallop shells provide a natural and beautiful holder for smudge sticks and incense, helping to catch ash and maintain a tidy space. They also offer a stable surface for arranging crystals, allowing the stones' energy to radiate harmoniously. In ceremonies the scallop shell is often used to symbolise water.
In addition to their role in rituals, scallop shells are perfect for crafts and home decor. Their unique shapes and textures make them an excellent base for creating one-of-a-kind art pieces, from decorative wall hangings to intricate jewellery. Scallop shells can be painted, adorned with beads, or combined with other natural elements like driftwood and sea glass to craft stunning, personalised items.
